an iwaoi zine

結未, read musubi, is derived from 結び, meaning connection or union, and 未来, meaning future. Musubi is a SFW Haikyuu!! anthology centered around Iwaizumi Hajime and Oikawa Tooru, with a central theme of connection and reunion—that no matter how their paths may diverge, they will ultimately and inevitably find their way back to each other again.

What is the theme of Musubi?

This zine is themed around the concept of separation and eventual reunion, of an unseverable connection in spite of the physical distance between Iwaizumi and Oikawa.

Will AUs be allowed? Fantasy AU?

Yes, we welcome AUs! Fantasy AU works very well with the theme of reunion ;)

Will this zine be digital or physical? For-profit or charity? How will contributors be compensated?

This anthology aims to be an A5 physical* book, and will be for-profit. All contributors are guaranteed a digital PDF of the zine and physical items at production price. If sales allow, all contributors will be provided a full bundle with free shipping. Any additional profits after covering production and contributor compensation will be evenly split among the team.*Due to the uncertainty surrounding how tariffs will impact zine production and finances, it is possible that we will have to scale down to a digital book, with a physical print run at a later time when such a run becomes feasible. Of course, we’ll try our best to avoid this scenario—our goal is to produce a gorgeous book for Iwaoi fans to enjoy and be able to add to their bookshelves.

How many contributors will be accepted?

Final numbers will be determined based on the interest check, but we are currently planning to feature the works of 1 cover artist, 12-15 page artists, 6-10 comic artists, 5-8 writers, and 3-5 merch artists, inclusive of guests.

What are contributors expected to produce for Musubi?

The cover artist will be illustrating a cover spread. Page artists may choose between illustrating a single-page portrait or double-page spread. Comic artists will create a multi-page comic, which may be in grayscale. Page and comic artists may optionally collaborate with a writer for their piece. Writers will write one fic approximately 5K words in length. Merch artists will create 2 merch pieces.

I have other questions.

Thank you for your interest in applying to Musubi. Please read the following information carefully before submitting your application. Failure to adhere to application guidelines and expectations may result in disqualification.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Musubi will not be accepting applicants who: engage in racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic behavior; engage in harassment; use generative AI or sell NFTs; or have a history of theft (art tracing, plagiarism, copying, etc.). Contributors found in violation of this policy will be removed from the project.

  • All accepted applicants are expected to have a Discord account, communicate openly with mods, meet deadlines in a timely manner, and adhere to zine policy.

  • The mod team reserves the right to remove any contributor from the project at their discretion, should the contributor fail to notify the team of their progress.
